Smile

Smile though your heart is aching;
Smile even though it’s breaking.
When there are clouds in the sky, you’ll get by.
If you smile through your fear and sorrow,
Smile and maybe tomorrow,
You’ll see the sun come shining through for you.

Light up your face with gladness,
Hide every trace of sadness.
Although a tear may be ever so near,
That’s the time you must keep on trying,
Smile, what’s the use of crying?
You’ll find that life is still worthwhile,
If you just smile.

That’s the time you must keep on trying,
Smile, what’s the use of crying?
You’ll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile.

Lyrics by John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons.
Music written by Charlie Chaplin, 1936.

It’s an age-old song that has withstood the test of time. Even nearly a century after it was first written, Smile, by John Turner, Geoffrey Parsons, and Charlie Chaplin is a song that resonates with many people. A smile is a powerful thing. No one knows this better than cosmetic dentists. They have made it their life’s work to heal and improve smiles. Cosmetic dentistry can restore a person’s confidence, sense of self, and improve their standard of living. Something as simple as a new and beautiful smile can transform a life. If you’ve ever been hesitant or embarrassed to smile, contact a cosmetic dentist and discuss the many treatment options available to you, including veneers, composite fillings, crowns, bridges, dental bonding, implants, and many others. It’s never too late to have the smile you’ve always dreamed of.

Cosmetic Dentistry Can SAVE You Money in the Long-run!

It’s no secret that the U.S. economy is still struggling.  With the rising cost of so many essential and basic items, many people are conflicted by the idea of spending money on non-fundamental things.  Cosmetic dentistry tends to fall into this category.  HOWEVER—did you know that spending money now on cosmetic dentistry can save you money in the future?  It may sound crazy, but it’s true.  Even if you were to pay for a standard silver amalgam filling for a cavity today, odds are that down the road you’re going to want it replaced with a tooth-colored filling once money is more plentiful.  However that means paying double the cost, if not more—because not only do you have to pay for the original amalgam filling, you have to pay for a second appointment, having the first filling removed, and the cost of the second composite filling to replace it.  In the end, it’s far more economical to spend a little more money upfront to have the composite filling completed rather than spending double or triple the amount of money to correct an unsightly metal filling down the road.  Contact a cosmetic dentist today to discuss your options.

Women and Cosmetic Dentistry

A 2007 study conducted by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry found that 67 percent of cosmetic dentistry patients were female.  That means two out of every three patients trying to improve their overall dental health and smile are women.  What could contribute to this high statistic?

The stereotypical answer would be that women care more about their appearance than men do.  However, I don’t think that this is necessarily a true statement.  When it comes to the appearance of a person’s teeth, everyone wants a beautiful smile no matter what gender they are.

I believe that the influence the media has had on women highly impacts this statistic.  The vast majority of women in the media have a perfect smile.

This is not a bad thing.  It is important to feel good about yourself.  But men, don’t be afraid to get out there and find a cosmetic dentist to get the smile of your dreams.  Just because currently more women are having cosmetic dentistry procedures than men does not mean that it is an industry focused exclusively on female clientele.  Gentlemen, don’t b e afraid to get out there and get the smile of your dreams.  The payoffs can be life-changing.

“Wrinkles should merely indicate where smiles have been.” -Mark Twain

Mark Twain was correct with this statement – people should smile every chance they get.  “Smile lines,” as they are sometimes referred to, should be something worn proudly.  Sadly, many people feel as though they do not have the option to smile all the time.

People that dislike their smile try to hide it at every possible chance.  They smile with their mouth closed, do not feel comfortable laughing, and cover their mouth when they talk.  As a person who jokes and laughs constantly, I could not image feeling uncomfortable with my smile.

I have porcelain veneers on my four upper-front teeth.  While it was a bit of a process to get veneers, it was extremely worth it.  I had a root canal procedure on my front right tooth, which resulted in the tooth turning black after the endodontic treatment.  My tooth next to it was chipped, so my dentist decided the best thing to do was place veneers on all four of the front teeth.

The porcelain veneers match my other teeth perfectly.  No one ever notices that they are veneers,  I am just told that I have very nice teeth.

If you are not happy with your smile, take the steps to change it.  It will give you a whole new level of confidence – and the smile that you have always dreamed of showing off.

The Drawbacks of Different Types of Dental Crowns

There are several different types of dental crowns available including all-metal, porcelain-fused-to-metal, all-resin, and all-ceramic. While all-metal crowns are strong, they are dark and noticeable and only practical for back molars.

When a dental crown is needed for a front tooth, porcelain (or another ceramic material) is now most commonly used. Porcelain-fused metal crowns are the most obvious of crowns. They have an artificial appearance of opacity and often develop a black line at the gum line over time. This type of crown is easier to place than extra-strength porcelain or bonded all-porcelain crowns, so they are most often used by general dentists who are not as concerned with aesthetics.

Extra strength porcelain crowns are more aesthetically pleasing and require no additional dental training, so general dentists can also this option when placing a crown on a tooth. While these crowns do not develop a distinct black line at the gumline, there are still complications. Instead of having an opaque core, there is an obvious, opaque white core, making these crowns not ideal for front teeth.

Bonded all-porcelain crowns are the ideal crown for a front tooth. While porcelain alone is not a very strong material, when bonded to a natural tooth it becomes extremely durable. Dentists need to be trained to perform this procedure, so be sure to research the dentist that will be doing your cosmetic dentistry.

Cosmetic Dentists are the Aesthetic “Designers” of Dentistry

How many times a day do you think you look in the mirror?  Two, three, maybe even six times?  What if you include not just your bathroom or dresser mirror, but also the mirrors in your car, reflections in glass windows, even perhaps a touch-up compact you keep in your purse or pocket.

We spend a lot of time looking at ourselves.  We evaluate our hair, clothes, make-up, jewelry, posture, and body shape.  We also look at our smile.  What do you think and feel when you look at your smile in the mirror?  Are you happy?  Disappointed?  Embarrassed?

Believe it or not, you can change the appearance of your smile almost as easily as you can change your clothing style.  Cosmetic dentists are the ultimate aesthetic “designers” of dentistry.  In as little as one appointment, they can fix chipped teeth with tooth colored bonding, complete laser tooth whitening, replace unsightly old metal fillings with naturally-colored composite (often call porcelain) fillings, and so much more.

Consider contacting one of your local cosmetic dentists for a personal consultation.  The next time you look in the mirror, you may just want to stay there and enjoy your smile for awhile.
