Women and Cosmetic Dentistry

A 2007 study conducted by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry found that 67 percent of cosmetic dentistry patients were female.  That means two out of every three patients trying to improve their overall dental health and smile are women.  What could contribute to this high statistic?

The stereotypical answer would be that women care more about their appearance than men do.  However, I don’t think that this is necessarily a true statement.  When it comes to the appearance of a person’s teeth, everyone wants a beautiful smile no matter what gender they are.

I believe that the influence the media has had on women highly impacts this statistic.  The vast majority of women in the media have a perfect smile.

This is not a bad thing.  It is important to feel good about yourself.  But men, don’t be afraid to get out there and find a cosmetic dentist to get the smile of your dreams.  Just because currently more women are having cosmetic dentistry procedures than men does not mean that it is an industry focused exclusively on female clientele.  Gentlemen, don’t b e afraid to get out there and get the smile of your dreams.  The payoffs can be life-changing.
