Be Kind to Your Teeth During the Holidays

The holidays are a time for happiness, togetherness, and celebration.  And with each of those things comes the natural desire for people to cook and share meals.  Holiday sweets and treats abound, making the holidays a less than ideal time for your teeth.

Sugar-filled goodies can wreak havoc on your teeth, fueling decay and causing cavities.  It’s also easy to chip or break teeth on hard substances such as candy canes or peanut brittle.  If any of these things happen, it’s important to see your dentist right away.  Composite cosmetic fillings, also known as tooth-colored or porcelain fillings, can repair cavities and are virtually indistinguishable from the natural shade of your teeth.  Tooth-colored dental bonding can also fix many chips that occur.  Teeth that are cracked or have chips too large to fix with bonding can be treated with crowns.  A crown serves as a “cap” over a broken or damaged tooth and can prevent further damage or complete tooth loss from occurring.

So this holiday season, share in all of the joy that comes with spending time with friends and family.  Be kind to your teeth by being cautious with what you choose to eat—and be sure to see your cosmetic dentists right away if you experience any cavities, chips, or cracks.
