How Long Do Cosmetic Dentistry Treatments Last?

The amount of time a cosmetic dentistry treatment can last varies by the type of procedure done.  The longevity of treatments continues to grow with new advancements in modern dentistry and technology.

Tooth-colored porcelain or composite fillings are estimated to last anywhere from three to ten years, while veneers can last up to ten years and often longer.  The longevity of crowns varies by the type of crown used but can last several decades or even a lifetime if treated properly.  Dental implants have the potential to last a lifetime as well.

The amount of time a treatment lasts before it needs to be redone is highly dependent on how well a person maintains their oral hygiene.  If someone is a “tooth grinder” or “clencher,” it’s important to use a mouth guard at night to reduce wear and tear on veneers, crowns, fillings, and implants.  Each has the potential to crack or come loose if not properly cared for.  Teeth are still susceptible to cavities and decay even with crowns or veneers, so daily care including brushing, flossing, and mouthwash are important.
