A cosmetic dental center is formed by a group of dental professionals who have decided to focus on those aspects of dentistry that affect an individual’s esthetics or appearance.  While the basics are taught at dental schools, those who choose a focus usually pursue additional post graduate study.

The cosmetic dentist, while interested in form, he or she is also highly interested in function.  The range of study for cosmetic dentistry therefore extends beyond the tools available to make teeth white and straight, but work to ensure that teeth are supported, function properly and are healthy.  Some of the same treatments used to make your smile whiter and brighter also add strength and removed disease.  These can also restore proper function to broken or missing teeth.  The treatment and prevention of recurring disease is must also be considered.  Restorations must be shaped to perform not only chewing, but also support muscle and the flow of saliva that removes bacteria.

Its not a drill and fill kind of world anymore.  People can now keep their teeth in healthy function form till the very end.  A cosmetic dental center must be prepared to provide the full armamentarium of treatment from diagnosis to maintenance and everything in between.
