According to the American Dental Association about half of Americans don’t go to the dentist. While many reasons are given such as fear and money, eventually most must find a local dentist to help restore damage and neglected teeth and gums.
This search usually begins as an emergency event. An infection, a broken tooth or pain that wakes one up in the middle of the night can instigate a middle of the night search for help. But who does the patient call? Many times dental offices will see only patients of record for emergencies that occur after hours.
If the patient doesn’t have a friend or family member to ask, they often turn to the internet to locate those providing services that meet the needed criteria – emergency services. However, this is where an ounce of prevention and a little early intervention can really help.
Before there is an emergency, find a local dentist. Look for a professional in your area who can deliver the kind of care you want with the expertise you think is important and begin seeing them for routine care now. Your chances of experiencing an emergency will be greatly reduced and if you should ever do have an emergency, you’ll know just who to call.
